Default 42RE losing Overdrive?

My truck shifts fine through all gears except when its going into overdrive.

I'll accelerate at even pace through 1,2 and 3 but when its about to hit 4th gear the truck hesitates to go into OD and then it'll give a hard shake and go into OD.

It doesn't kick out, just hesitates to go in.

What could this be? The governor pressure sensor and solenoid?

The fluid is a little high, it's slightly passed the full mark but I didn't think this would make a huge difference. I topped it up and went a little too far.

I've been driving without OD for the past week or two just incase I'm damaging something.

Any ideas?

Does this stay consistent at all temperatures? Remember, OD does not kick in until the trans is around 100° or so.

That's about all I can give for input.

Yeah I know OD doesn't kick in till a certain temp - but thanks.

It happens anytime. The tranny actually acts a little worse once it heated up.

All gears except 4th is fine, which is why i'm wondering if its something OD related

If you have your fluid overfilled or underfilled even just a little bit it can cause that... I know from experience.

Also, check to see that your overdrive shutoff button is working properly. Sometimes those can go bad and cause problems.

Well I took out some of the tranny fluid like you suggested but it still feels the same.

As for the OD button, do you mean the button on the shift lever? It will kick me out of OD no problem, just when it goes to put me back in it'll hesitate and then put me back in with kind of a hard clunk.

OD is in the tailhousing, separate from the primary gearset for gears 1-3. A-la, the 4*RE's are basically electronic controlled TF727's with a OD box hung on the end.
