Drive a 2000 5.9l dakota 4x4 and love it but for one thing. I really miss having a manual trans. Does anyone know of a manual trans that can be used in this truck and if so any tips on the conversion would be great. Would really love to hear from or about someone who has done it.
I've been wanting to do the same swap in my 03 and it will happen if the auto trans ever goes out on me again. The nv3500 would probably be ur best bet as far as trannys go. You'll need tranny, bell housing, clutch, flywheel, pedals, master cylinder, and figure a way to make you truck think its in neutral all the time
NV3500 would handle a 5.9 fine IMO...they're rated for 325-340 ft lbs. There's always the NV3500HD too. NV4500 on the other hand is bullet proof, but ur tunnel is about 2" too small, nothing a 3" body lift wouldn't fix
And as far as a doner truck goes...u can find a dak in the junk yard with a manual. But u won't find a dak with a 5.9 with a manual trans. Not sure if everything off a ram might work or not
