Default 97 5.2 falls on its face at 2K

went and splashed around in some puddles the other day and now my truck isn't running right. i smacked the crossmember once because i decided i wanted to hit a couple ruts and make a good slpash and turns out they were pretty deep... but it ran fine after that for the minute until i parked it. then, it wouldn't start and was acting like the distrubutor got wet so we towed it home. the air filter had mud in it so it definitely sucked up a little water but it doesn't look like it could have been too much. got it to start the next morning but it falls on its face at 2000rpms and can't rev above 3 even under no load. pulled the plugs and tried shooting any water out of the cylinders but none came out. replaced the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor cuz it needed it anyway but no luck. any ideas until i get a hold of a scan tool?

If it is misfiring after 2k then chances are its a senor problem.

Best thing to do would be get a scanner and see what codes may appear.

Yeah.. all a dist. needs is to dry out a little and she'll run good again.. I buried my Truck (even though its 4x4) in my Paw-paw's pond.. I mean buried it.. as in water was over the top of the hood.. and I even sucked a little crap in because i found pond skum on the inside of my air hat (Whoops) she went through it like it was nothing and did not have 1 problem after wards..

I have to agree you probably had a loose exposed connection or something and fried something.. or disconnected something.. CEL?

I'd start making sure everything is connected and free of debris; check your fuel rails; canister; check and make sure if there is any water in the tank.. all that kind of stuff.. check if anything is disconnected; or any thing tore or pinched..

It sounds like she's idling but above 2-3K it's missing or not running right? Could of fried the coil? Alt? Battery Level? Something is a miss here not allowing enough fuel/air; or spark.. it sounds like.. rather its a sensor or something physical-failure.

wouldn't be a bad idea to replace your plenum, once you get everyting figured out.

got a hold of a scanner and it had a code for "02 sensor shorted to ground" i cleared it and drove around with the scanner hooked up but it never came back so i'm guessing it must have been shorted by some water getting into the harness. it no longer falls on its face, but still lacks power and is getting terrible economy but i'm pretty sure its because i destroyed the internals of my CAT when i smacked the high center of the ruts. i can hear something rattling around in it and it has a weird smell so i'm pretty sure thats gotta be it. just gonna have to wait a couple paychecks cuz i already need wheel bearings and ball joints :/
