i have a few big Qs. so for give me. i have been thinking 2 nd gen is what i have, what i have is a 2001 dak. next ; my 2001 factory paper service manual shows i have coil springs on the front, is what i have. but i have seen people talk about bars, so what has what? i did have a 3rd Q but brain fade hit hard.

I have a 2001 too. I believe they are 2nd gen. 2wd have coils and 4wd have torsion bars. as for the 3rd question, I may be young but I know how it feels.

On this site 2nd gen is 97-04 so you are correct. Some other boards break up the 1st gen's so you may see 97-04 as 3rd gen elsewhere.

All 2wd 2nd gen (97-04) Dakotas have a coil spring front suspension... 4wd 2nd gens have torsion bars.

as allways my friends have the answers. i was raised on torsion bars. i allways knew they were much better than coils. but i bought a 1977 new D100 with coils but was very happy with it. i would give my arm for the 1965 chrysler 300L i had. thanks for the help.
