Default heater only warm, problem in Colorado

I just got this 97 Dakota and it is starting to get cool in the mornings already, so tried the heater and not happy, was only warm. Do I need a new thermostat, or is it a bigger problem?

could be the heater core getting clogged up, could be the tstat stuck open and the coolant not getting warm enough (but I doubt it). My money lies on the heater core.
