Default Fix or upgrade

I plan on doing the intake plenum on my 5.2 magnum engine when it warms up outside (lots of white smoke and misfires and the inside toward the area close to the distributor seems filthy with what looks like oil. Im pretty sure this is what has been causing my truck to sporadically jerk and buck) I was looking around a little and thought to myself "if the plenum fix kit is around 120-140 why not spend a little more and get a new intake? Ive been searching around and it seems like it may be a good idea. I figure if I have to tear it down then why not make sure I have what I want. I have a few questions on this.

1. Is it worth doing? how much can I expect to gain from this and should I bother or should I just buy the fix kit?

2. I would like the new intake manifold to be around $300 if possible. Any more and it doesn't seem worth it. (a little over wont kill me) but I gotta be kind of conservative with my cash or I will be facing my woman's wrath.

3. Where can I buy one that isn't for a carb setup and that isn't crazy expensive?

4. Are there any better alternatives?

the engine is in a 98 dakota sport 4x4 , 5 speed manual. 166k
Thoughts and opinions are welcome and as always thank you guys for the help and info!

You could do a kegger mod.
I have never done it and can't comment on how it preforms.
Here is a good write up.

Ill consider doing this but it seems sort of difficult to do right plus I don't have the tools so I'll have to buy them.

So after doing a lot of research I'm pretty sure I am just going to repair the stock plenum and maybe attempt to modify it a little. From what I can gather the gains in HP doesn't seem worth it for buying an upgraded intake manifold for $500+
