So I just got out of surgery for a hernia today and all this downtime had just got me thinking a little. I'm wondering on how serious the rust is on my truck and possibly the best way to go about fixing it. Ill list all the areas and you guys tell me how serious it is. After I recover I plan on scraping down the underside and applying rust reformer and also rubberized undercoating on pretty much everything under there to stop all the rust.

1. First bit isn't serious about a small fist size amount has rotted away on the pass fender near the magnum v8 badge. The previous owner seemed to have stopped it but eventually I'm going to possibly replace the fender due to my OCD.

2. Most of the underside has rust on it. I've poked around down there and there doesn't seem to be any deep rot.

3. A small plate size amount has rotted away under the driver side ext cab area. I can stick my hand up through the hole between the exterior body and the plating for the inside. Fortunately it seems mostly cosmetic as it doesn't seem to have rotted the inner later and it isn't even visible unless you bend down near it. I'm going to be stopping and coating this area first.

4. Regular rust coating on the inside of the front and rear bumpers. I'm just going to spray it liberally with rust reformer after I scrap the surface.

5. Oil pan has some surface rust on it. I'm going to sand it and spray it.

The last two im a tiny bit concerned about.

6. The frame rail (Idk if that's the name it looks like the frame) under the drivers side door has a dime sized hole rusted through in it. I was told to sand and spray what I could on the outside and spray something oil based like wd40 on the inside.

7. The frame under the front bumper near the radiator has a hole in it a little bigger than a quarter. I was planning to do the same thing as number 6 with it.

8. Lastly the Pinch welds under the truck a rusty and somewhat rotted I'm just going to break away what I can and sand the rest then undercoat it. This seems to be the least concerning.

So that seems to be all the rust issues I can find on my truck. As I said this coming spring I'm doing a complete tune up and repair and I want to fix as much of the rust as possible. Any advice or opinions are always appreciate cause you guys are great! Thanks again.

I'll be fixing the rust on mine too this summer but what you've described seems a lot worse han mine. My fenders are done but everything else is just minor rust.

If you fix it before me let me know how it goes. Also pics would help!

Other than the small holes in the frame and the area under the ext cab I'm not TOO worried about most of it. The underside is going to be the biggest job as I plan to scrape and sand as much of it off as I can and apply rust reformer and then 3m rubberized undercoating. I will probably take some pictures when I am able to crawl under there. Right now its hard to move as I just had surgery.
