Default Door Lock Actuator

So I'm looking for a passenger side door lock actuator for my pickup. It will unlock maybe 5% of the time, and I had that happen to the rear hatch on my SUV I had, and it was just the lock actuator. I have look all around, (rockauto, orileys, autozone, dealer) and no one seems to have one. Is there anywhere that anyone knows of where I could purchase one? I'm really just wanting the actuator because its cheaper of course. My final option is to go out to a junk yard and try and pull one off, but I'd like to see if I can purchase a new one.

Thanks

-Kyle

The factory door lock actuator is an internal part of the door latch assembly. You can not buy just the actuator by itself, Dodge only sells the whole latch assembly as one unit. But it is possible to disconnect the two wires going to the door lock actuator and mount an aftermarket actuator in the door cavity and attach its connecting rod to the factory door lock rod. Then just connect the two wires on the actuator to the two wires from the factory actuator wire harness. If the door lock works backwards, just reverse the wire connections. You can buy an actuator from Crutchfield for $8.00 shipped, or you can get one at a good car audio/alarm shop or Best Buy for maybe $20.00 or $25.00. Pep Boys used to sell one too, it cost about $12.00 but I have no idea if they still carry it.

Yep, ended up getting one at a junkyard for 35 bucks. Just make sure you know how the clips work on the locking and unlocking rods, if not, you could break off the door handle latch for the rod (like I did) but with some ingenuity it is easily fixable. It kinda sucks to take out, but make sure you know whether you have one bolt or two bolts above the latch. For some reason they are different, even on the same model year. Also make sure to get an electric one if you need the actuator (whole idea for me). Other than all that, pretty simple install.
