Pad replacement
Who has the time, patience and expertise to offer me a step by step (after the truck is off the ground and wheels removed) in a DYI removal and replacement of the front break pads and rotors? Anyone?
I’m no gearhead, but I can hold my own wrench
could use torque specs as well.
I did a search, but came up empty...hard to believe.
97 4X4 Dakota...duh.
Thanks in advance, Flyboy.

I'll tell you but i get to call you nooob throughout this tutorial
aggreed.....good
1. tire off (after properly supporting the truck) nooob
2. get a torax #45 bit - usually through your local parts dealer
3. loosen the 2 bolts CAREFULLY - and by hand - air WILL f-up your spindle ($3000 - only at dealer)
4. slide off the caliper - don't have to be so carefull here - mine sometimes gives me resistance
5. remove old pads and inspect caliper - it shouldn't look twisted, rubber should look good; if this looks suspicious (even after cleaning it) replace the caliper. their cheeeeeep verses having one fail
6. clean all the brake parts, if the rotor is scared or warped - replace it!!! the 2x4's are only $12 each here in so.cal.
7. check glove box - looking for ABS. Mine is rear only, some are 4 wheel ABS
A.-- ABS yes (sorry nooob it gets harder)--
7a clamp the rubber brake line
7b open bleeder valve
7c compress caliper piston (get brake fluid everyware)
7d close bleeder valve and uncompress the rubber line
- You do this to not f-up the ABS moddule
B.--ABS NO (yipppe nooob)--
7a compress caliper piston - done
8. install new pads
9. replace caliper, rembering how it came off
10. torque torax bolts to 17 ft.lbs. MAX - more will strip the spindle (remember $3k spindle)
11. replace tire and torque the lugs to 50 ft.lbs.
12. same thing on the other side...
Have fun...try not to curse too much
NOOOOOOOOOOOOBBBB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pads - duh
torax #45
c clamp - if you have ABS
brake fluid - how much is up to you, remember you can return unpoened bottles
10 mm end wrench - for the caliper bleeder valve
BRAKE CLEANER - AT LEAST 2 CANS!!! (over use it, just clean up afterward)

Job complete. Thanks for your advise. I had all the tools already since I have been doing all the maintenance on my K1200RS for some time now. Been awhile since I attacked automotive brakes.
