Default CV axle compatibility?

Will a CV axle out of a mid 2000s Ram 1500 work for my 04 Dakota?

I'm guessing it's going to be a little long, for starters.

Some say they will and others dont. I would just get one off ebay.

Well Ive got a buddy that has a brand new one that he was going to give me. Ive got to replace the hub so I might as well replace the CV too. Ill cross reference and see. I figured the main difference might be the length due to the width differences in the two. Ill post back up my find

It doesn't look like they will interchange. The part numbers are different. Another question, do I need the tone ring when buying a new hub assembly? I know I need Front left, with 4 wheel ABS, 4 wheel disc 4wd specific one? Anything else I need to know? Sorry for all of the questions
