Default Intermittent idle problem..

Hello,

My 1999 Dakota V8, fuel injected, recently started to lose its idle. It will run when started and foot held on the gas pedal. Most of the time it starts and idles fine. When the problem happens, I have to restart it several times and it will eventually regain the idle. Any ideas?

Thanks
Stu

wow - many things to look at. being gen 2, I have to assume you have the MAP sensor, so I'd change it. Another quick question is how long it's been since you cleaned the throttle body. these two items could easily cause idle issues.

others will input better data, but I know these items are a good base to start. then, look to fuel pressure... failing pump I've had issues like that - fuel filtration associated and inclusive.

dirty injectors next? let the pros take it after you answer or clean the TB and replace the MAP sensor.

Good Luck!

Start with the easy stuff take the throttle body off and clean it. Take IAC off and try clean it. When my Map sensor went out it started use gas like crazy fast about 4 miles to the gallon fast. You may also try to seafoam the top of the motor and fuel system. I would buy a can of seafoam and put half in the tank and the rest through the intake. The biggest thing is you are talking about a 15 year old truck and I am sure the sensors are starting to show there age.
