Default Transmission slip?

I have a 98 dakota, not sure of what transmission it has but it slips when i am turning and try to take off fast. I noticed it does it usually when it gets over 2500 rpm. I haven't noticed when i stop and take off it is mainly just when i turn.

I don't know if this could cause it but my transmission cooler lines are leaking a little bit and i plan to replace them soon.

The first step would to be sure the trans fluid level is up at the correct level. Check with the engine running and in the gear selector in N with the park brake set / wheels blocked. ( instructions for checking are on the dipstick / owners manual) If the fluid is checked when the trans is warm it is more accurate, but if its low enough to act odd you will see that it is low on fluid then checked right after fire up. Fluid loss will certainly make your trans act up. If you are lucky that's all it is, and not a fried band, clutch or the like. The trans fluid should be red and not have a burnt smell to it. Are you using ATF+4? Check this and post back what you find.

Its vehicle-specific.

Chrysler trannies should be checked in neutral.
