these gas tanks build pressure?
on just about every vehicle ive ever put gas in, when i go to fill up, i open the tank and the tank hisses when i open it, Except for my Dakota and my dads Festiva, and his car smells like gas inside of it, so i suspect a fill/vent tube or even the fuel pump access seal is damaged....
But with my Dakota, i took the bed off, looked for any visible damage, couldnt find any, And then i figured if its leaking, and i blow air into the tank, will it leak... i blew air into the tank until i couldnt push anymore air into it, i dont suspect it to be leaking, But i am losing gas while the truck is parked and completely off....
Any ideas??? 1998 Dakota 2.5 / 5 speed

If you did have a fuel system air leak it would toss a code on you.
The system is solid lines if I remember correctly and the line is under high pressure for the fuel injection directly from the tank.
Check every inch of solid line for a pin hole or smaller hole but under the pressure its in a running state you should see the leak
You have a locking gas cap if no you may have gas thief's stealing your gas

mine has YET to do so, and a guy that does body work has an 04 Durango and he says his tank never hisses either.. then we walked over to a dodge ram that had a little gas and just stopped from a long trip, checked it too, no hissing at all when we opened the tank, He thinks my gauge is messed up
For the way i drive and how under-powered this 2.5 Dakota is, i may be looking into a v8 model, ive put over 1500 miles since the rebuild, and the Engine runs PERFECT, has yet to give me an issue, i have Two codes on, one for the power steering and another one which is something about the A/C Clutch
