Default How do I Wire for trailer breaks

Hi all,

I pull a tent trailer with 04 dakota with a V8. It didnt come with the towing package so it doesn't have the harness on the fuse box. Someone installed a seven prong plug off of a four prong. I was told by the dealer that they can install the trailer break wiring for about $125. I would love to do this on my own to save money. Has anyone wired for trailer breaks on a Dakota that did not have the harness attached to the fuse box.

Any diagrams would be great and where to plug into the fuse box.

Thanks,
Rick

When you buy a brake controller, it will come with instructions. There are only 4 wires. One goes to the brake light switch, one to battery power, one to the trailer connector in back, and one to ground. It's pretty simple.

*EDIT*
How big is this tent trailer? I've never seen one with electric brakes.
