Refurbish 1999 Dakota
I have a 1999 Dakota 4x4 extended cab with Leer cap. It has been outside most all these years in the Ontario, Canada climate. I like its manual transmission that seems like impossible to find now.
Anyhow, instead of purchasing a new truck in the next year or so I am musing about having this one refurbished with
new paint job
whatever needs replacing as there is some rust now
the bumpers would need replacing they are rusting out now...
the engine seems in good shape as it has had regular maintenance and has less than 200,000km on it.
A/C needs compressor (or more ) replaced
assess the radiator but no obvious signs of failure from outside inspection
I would also replace the Leer cap..it is showing its age.
If all this can be done for 10,000-15,000 or less I might go with that.
Anybody have any ideas or suggested places where I could get estimates (and work done) ??
...pls do not tell me to buy a new one...that is NOT the question I am asking!

I pretty much rebuilt my 97 when I got it. It certainly cost me less than buying a new one, but it cost a lot more in the long run than buying a nicer used one.
If you really like your truck or it has sentimental value to you, you should do exactly what you're talking about. Just be realistic and don't expect to get nearly what you put into it if you decide to sell it. At the end of the day, it's still a 99.
BTW, if the Leer shell is just faded and ugly, you can have that painted, too, for less than the cost of a new one. If it has cracks or other damage, you're probably better off buying new.
