I'd hang on to the cat in case it ever needs to be reinstalled for any reason. If you hollow it out, it obviously can't be returned to stock.

As for your o2 sensor just buy 2 18mm non foulers drill one out to 1/2 in and attach them to the sensor and put it back in the pipe, that will take care of your CEL light.

Why do I have to drill one out to 1/2" cant I just buy an 18mm and a 1/2"? I ask because I don't have a drill...was an older one and the motor finally gave out.

My cat is toast, it rattles at idle, under load, and just cruising so I would have to buy a new one if I needed one anyway. I cant think of a time when I would need one considering the only place around me that requires smog is Seattle and I will never live there!

You have to drill the inside out to 1/2 so the end of the sensor will go through it. The sensor is a 18mm hole but the inside isn't. If you look at them you'll understand why it's necessary to drill out the inside to 1/2.

Ok so from my research most trucks before 2000 you can just zip tie the rear O2 sensor up to the frame and it wont cause any CEL's or problems. I guess as long as the rear is a lower temp then the front it is fine. Works for me! So I will cut out 18" of pipe (cat + rear O2 sensor bung) and get some pipe connectors and slap it together. About $22 after everything is said and done. Wish me luck! Gonna do this on Wed morning this coming weeks.
