Has anyone had issue's connecting with your laptop? If so did you get it to connect and if so how?

 

In case anyone is interested, I just read an article in Popular Mechanics about an OBD-II device from Verizon. It actually is a cell phone attached to your OBD-II port, it is a bit expensive and you actually have to pay for a data plan. But it has gps and logging features. Plus depending on the output of the vehicle it can even activate your key fob and remote starter functions.

 

I wonder if Verizon would bundle it in with your existing plan? I've had most of the major companies over the years and by far Verizon is the best coverage in North Eastern PA. But what's the point in having another bill from them? I'll have to call and talk to someone about it since I currently have Verizon.

 

As long as you already have a data plan the article said the additional charge would only be $5 a month, but I want to say the device is closer to $250, luckily it's a one time charge but it's a bit steep for my liking...

 

yeah that's to steep for my blood, I rather spend 250 on a night out or something ****. this set up for a reader is working great for me so i'm going to stick to it, but the Verizon one was an idea to toss around in my head I guess. something to consider...

 

Just bought one on amazon! Pretty pumped to have it come in on Friday!

Kyle that's the same one I got, i'll tell ya what man pay for the app, it's well worth it, and it works great, I've used it on a few different vehicles already, and it's worth it.

 

Well the first one that came in didn't work. I plugged it into the port, it lit up, but I couldn't find it with the bluetooth on my phone. However, since I ordered from amazon, they took it back and refunded my money so I went for another one and this one worked! Let me tell you for 20 bucks plus a 5 dollar app, you can't beat it! I use it to see how my mileage is and where I can improve it. Also the code reader is AWESOME! When you get a code, you can click on it and it opens a google search to tell you what the code means exactly. Clears codes just fine as well. I've got a grand am that I'm gonna look at shorty and it has about 3 lights on it and who knows how many codes. This little scanner will make it easier to pinpoint what is wrong. Definitely suggest it to anyone on a budget that wants a little more info on their pickup.

 

I've got the $11 one from EBay, and it works just fine with my android phone. The Torque app is just fine for what I need and want--especially the part that scans for codes in the PCM. I just leave it plugged in all the time. The little red light makes it look like it's got some sort of alarm system.

I got my auto trannie problems cleared up and=====NO CODES stored!
