Default Same Engine, Different Year Compatibility

As some of you are aware I destroyed the engine in my Dak and I've recently found a low mileage 3.9 but its from an 2000 Dakota while mine is a 2002.

Will I need a new engine harness or pcm like you would need if doing a 5.2 swap?

Or can I drop it in, bolt it up and be laughing?

Thanks

It should be the same. You can eyeball the replacement and if it looks pretty much the same you're golden.

You may need to transfer some or all of your engine stuff over so that your truck thinks it's just another engine. My guess, tho, is that you won't even need to do that.

A really easy way to tell, tho, is to go to RockAuto and compare the parts numbers between a crate engine for '00 and one for 02. There's a lot of good info on RockAuto.

Thanks Brian!

I checked on Rock Auto as I use them quite often too but I didn't see any crate engines from them or at least for the 3.9.

If they did carry them hell Id just get one from them.

I would transfer over the sensors, like the crankshaft sensor. Or just be aware that they may be different and then if you have problems change it out.

You need to look under "engine" and then choose "long block." A Marshall #C2383C is us$1288.79 plus a $425 core charge. Core return is prepaid. If you could find a place on the US side of the international border to have it delivered, that would probably be best. Other brands (search on the internet) are ATK, Jasper.

BTW, the number for the 2000 model is the same as the 2002.

Thanks again guys.

Found a 98 3.9 out of a wrecked Dakota since that 2000 engine owner stopped replying.

This guy wants 400 for it. Only 150,000 kms on it.

So I can pull mine and drop in this one? Won't need the wiring harness or pcm or nothing?

Cheers
