Default O3 dakota transfer case problems

So I have an 03 Dakota 4.7L and I made the swap from a nv233 transfer case to the nv244 transfer case. everything went together smoothly except for the fact that now I do not have awd only 4hi and 4lo. every once in a while it will go into drive in awd but absolutely no reverse what so ever. and when I switch from awd to 4hi it makes a terrible clunk. Anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening???

The only logical thing I can think of is a bad tc which I just purchased... This is very frustrating.

Sounds like a bad unit. It's all mechanical and should just be plug and play..

And yes, AWD for the win!
