My radiator has a slight leak. I've been reading that the tow package comes with a heavier duty maximum cooling radiator which is two rows on the core.

From another site: "Stock heavy duty radiator is 1.5" wide and a dual row radiator with 55 rows"

• Core Width — 1.5"
• # of Vertical Rows — 2
• # of Horizontal Rows — 55
• Part Number — 52028818AD

I have the tow package on my 4.7L dakota but I haven't been able to verify the radiator type without pulling it apart. Point is, the ones I have come across in parts stores and online are all 1.25" and single row.

Example...

I do plan to tow and don't want to overheat. Any ideas on where I source the maximum cooling type aside from breaking my pocket at the dealer?

i went through 1-800-radiator. price wasn't too bad and it's an all aluminum one. With the mark 8 fan and 180 stat, my 3.9 runs between 177 and 185 with the A/C off, depending on outside temp.

 

With enough googling anything is possible. Hope this helps someone out.

These are the two aftermarket radiators that match the heavy duty radiator. The first one is a two row core. However, I've seen some complaints from people who ended up with a single row core model in the box when it arrived. I opted for the second model for only that reason (and it's cheaper). The second radiator is a single row but the core thickness is 1.63" vs 1.25" of the typical aftermarket. That's even thicker than the OEM 1.5" two row. Of course, two rows gives you a lot more surface area to cool.

For 2000 - 2004 Dakotas.

not sure on part number, but mine is a CSF.

 

I found a heavy duty racing radiator if you wanna pay $800

 

there's really nothing special about a "racing" radiator. Our car had an original VW Scirroco radiator and fan in it when we bought it, we switched it out for an aluminum scirocco radiator.

 

Already got this installed and working, along with new thermostat. Temp needle stays below halfway on the gauge.

 

I wanna do thia as well any issues with the 180 t stat and rad

 

the 180 stat is required before you can run most of hemifever's SCT tunes. I have the 180 + mark 8 fan and my truck runs around 177-185 depending on weather and A/C.
