Default Reprograming 42RE Transmission

My 42RE transmission has always shifted at odd times, mostly seems to shift up too early and kill all the power. Every now and then the tranny decides to play pin ball through the gears. While there is some slop in the transmission this seems to be more of a computer issue vs. wear and tear.

Anyways I have done a lot of searching but all I have found is after market reprogramers such as super chip. Does anybody have any experience with these or any other suggestions?

the 4*RE's cannot be modified through the computer. The super chips ect are for the (5)45RFE's. The 4*RE are all hydraulic with some electronic inputs here and there.

Good to know I completely missed that. Do you know if there is any way to adjust the transmission?

basically, the PCM monitors the trans and controls the lockup solenoid and overdrive solenoid. The TV cable controls shift timings by adjusting system pressure, but improper adjustment can cause transmission damage long-term.
