Check Gages Light - Oil Low
My Check Gages Light came on. Found the Oil pressure gage was zero. Turned truck off for a few seconds and restarted and all the gages were normal. This has happened every 3rd or 4th time I start the truck. Any ideas what the problem could be?
It could be a bad sending unit, it's kind of a common problem on Dodges but you can check the oil pressure for sure with a mechanical gauge. You can buy one cheap at Harbor Freight or maybe rent one from a parts store. If the truck runs OK and has no knocking noises and the oil level is OK the problem may be electrical like a bad sending unit or a wiring problem.

This happened (still occasionally) on my 2004 Dak.
I posted here and everyone screamed "oil screen".. better change it or you'll blow your engine.. like some chant.. I knew it couldn't be, since my wife drove it over an hour home on "zero" oil pressure and not a drawback to be seen...
I found it to be bad contact(s) within the key switch in the steering column. I found one day I had no cabin fan and other readouts, and happen to brush my hand by the key ring, and everything blipped back on (except oil pressure).
The oil pressure gauge is a rebel, however. If something’s amiss, it simply refuses to cooperate at all. If you turn the key to off and back on before the engine has a change to stall the oil pressure will instantly jump to normal pressure. I know if it was a blockage that I dislodged, like others claim, I would still have to begin to build oil pressure not instantly land in the middle of the dial.
I have yet to replace my contacts, tumbler, or whatever is in the parts set.. Since I only have one chip key, and don’t want to mess with the dealer “unlocking”anything, and since I’m also a cheapskate, I don’t bother if it isn’t harming anything. I do, however, do that key thing just because that low pressure gauge does bother me… just in case it is ever the real thing.

The oil pressure switch has probably bit the dust. They're around 15 bucks or so at the parts stores.
