Default Remote Starter Issue

2004 Dakota 3.7 Automatic 4x4...I just bought the truck and I love it,however the remote starter has a issue. It is a Pro Start, six button starter/alarm system. The truck starts and shuts down immediately after. This occurs three times and ends with the truck not starting. It starts fine via ignition after this. There is a disconnect pin under the hood, the truck sat since the summer and a new battery was put in this fall.

Thoughts ?

Thank You..............-: baginz

It is tripping on your security key. It needs your gray key in the ignition.

The ignition anti-theft will shut the engine off after 3-5 seconds if the gray key is not inserted. For remote start, you have to bypass the anti-theft module. I don't have remote start so I don't known the intricacies.

Yeah when you have a chip key what they used to do was make you buy an extra key and they'd put it in a box up under your dash and somehow or another link it in so that your ECM would see the key/chip when you used remote start. Now they actually have a module that they program to fool the ECM into thinking the key is in, so you don't need an extra key.

In any case it sounds like your ECM isn't seeing either the key under the dash or the module and it's shutting down...the way it's supposed to.

Shouldn't be a hard fix for an installer.
