I am thinking about doing a frame swap because it seems like the easiest (and cheapest) way to get a 4wd V8 with rear disc brakes. I was looking at wheels and found KMC Monster wheels. They have the right lug pattern but I'm not sure about the offset and backspacing. So could yall tell me if these would fit without the wheels being stuck a mile out from under the truck?

Not sure if anyone will know the answer to that one or not!

I think you might have to take some measurements to sort out how much the wheel might extend beyond the body of the truck. Hopefully the supplier can provide the measurements, and you can compare that with the wheels you have today.

I'm assuming you have a 2 wheel drive truck now. If you don't have the engine you want, the rear end you want and it's a 2x4 and you want 4x4 I don't see any possible way that you'd get to where you want to be for less money if you did a frame swap.

If I were you I'd figure out how much you think it will cost you to do the swap. Then figure out how much you could sell your current truck for and what a new (to you) truck with the right engine, etc will cost. I bet you'd be money ahead to just sell it and buy a V8 truck.

Around here a 2wd 3.9 truck wold probably go for about $2000 and I could buy a 4X4 5.2 truck for $3000-3500. I doubt I could get a full rolling frame with a V8, tranny and transfer case for less than the $1000-1500 difference. Then you have to figure in your time as well. Plus you've have to have the ECU for the V8 on top of all that. Will your current fuel pump work with the V8? Maybe, but I'm not sure, there are lots of other factors here.

I'd just sell it and start with a truck that equipped the way you want.

 

Selling and buying another truck is not an option. This was my grandfathers truck and he gave it to me before he passed away.

What I, personally, would do in this case is leave the truck unmolested, just the way grandpa gave it to me, and save up some money to buy the truck I really want in addition to this one. Yeah, it might not be the quickest way to your goal, but I think it will give you the most satisfaction in the long run.

You're obviously not afraid to do some work, so you can buy a beater and fix it up. Deals are out there. Heck, I got my truck for free (in terrible condition).
