Default Factory remotes working distance

Does anyone else find that the factory door remote's don't work from that far away? I've tried putting new batteries in them but it didn't make it any better and by better I mean further away from the truck.

I got remote start put in and it works off the factory remote but the problem is unless you're basically next to the truck the remote won't work and that pretty much makes remote start useless. I know they probably weren't intended to work for anything further than a few feet away but I've seen some factory ones that will work from 50 yards + away.

I guess I might have to get an aftermarket remote for it to work better.

It also depends on what is around you and where you are relative to the truck. I've found that approaching from passenger side, range is significantly short than driver side, and that in parking lot/garage, best range is from the exposed side (front for me since I normally back in). Either side is very short, and from behind is just as bad. Other cars reflect the signal away.

I know mine works from just about 50' away

Where did you find a remote start that works on the factory remote, also what button do you push to start?

I got it at a local car/home audio place here. I didn't think I could use my factory remotes so I asked if he had a universal one so I didn't have to carry around 2 of them and he said he could just program the factory one to work.

You have to push the lock button 3 times and it starts up, then it stays in a safe mode, which is if anyone gets in and hits the brake pedal without the key in the ignition and in the ON position, the truck will shut down.

Not a bad deal for $199, except for the fact that the factory remote only works from about 5' away so most of the time the remote start is useless.

Id ask them if they have an antenna to extend the range. I find it kinda weird they incorporated it with the factory system. They should of known better. Most remote systems can still work with the factory system. We have 2 of them in our ram and grand cherokee and neither uses the factory remotes but they still work the keyless and security. Our 07 ram works up to a mile away with its after market remote start

A mile away?? How is that possible? You're telling me your remote works from over 5,000 feet away...how would you even know? So the factory ones work from like 5' away and the aftermarket from 5,000??

I don't know it didn't seem weird to the guy at the shop, he said it within the first minute I was there, asked if I wanted to use my factory remote, I said yes, he said no problem and that was it....seemed like something he does all the time. I'm sure he wouldn't have minded selling me a new remote for an extra $40 or whatever they are, but he didn't even try.

The thing starts up from inside my house which is really all I need it for at 6am, but it would be nice to be able to start it while walking up to it from like 20' away after I get off the train at 6:30 at night, or even as the train pulls into the station (about 100' away) at least then it will be running for a minute or so by the time I take off.

This is the one we have http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...2050-EDPB.html

The mile is the absolute limit. Its more for advertising but it does work with a line of sight type terrain. Usually around buildings and hilly areas its only about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile. It does work because when the truck is unlocked, locked and remote start the lcd remote tells you if it worked. Some of the newer car remotes work about 200 feet away which is ok for most people. My dakota was about 30 feet away and thats about the limit with my ram too. You can call and ask the shop if there is anything they can do about it.
