Not on a 4x4. You have to unbolt the hub from the spindle. It can be pretty difficult to get off even after the bolts are removed due to corrosion.
You're right, I forgot about that. I was going off memory from when I did it last fall. Mine (both front ones) came right off no problem. I guess I got lucky for once? Seemed like a piece of cake.
