Your O2 sensors may be also something to look at.

Mine wasn't throwing any codes but my Bank 0 Sensor 1 O2 was causing my truck to backfire like a mother. I have a video of the sound as well as a thread on these forums.

 

On a dark night, pop the hood and look for arcs and sparks.
