Default 4x4 to 2wd

Times are tough and just wondering has anybody removed the front axles sorry they are called CV Half Shaft Assembly on a 97 4x4 and left them off to get better mpg.

My wheel bearing making such a racket that I had to order the hub and should be here Tuesday on fed-ex. Was thinking about removing both shafts them.

Local gas price is 3.799 and that is only 90% gas. Ethanol sucks when mixed with gas.

You'll probably only save about 2mpg at best.

Thanks for the reply.
Just checked the web and found that average mpg for 2wd is 15 and average for 4x4 is 14. Guess you would be correct.

Going to get a Chevette and just mount my ladder rack to the bumpers.
