Default Engine cutoff on me

I was driving home from work today (10min drive home) and about halfway thru the drive my gas pedal just wouldn't give my truck any acceleration. so I slowed down and my engine just cutoff. I then stopped completely and tried starting the engine again, it would start then cutoff. It sounds like it is puttering or like a backfire. After like 5 times trying to start it, it started and I got it back to my driveway. Right when I entered my driveway it started losing accel in the pedal again and was puttering. I have no CELs and it sounds like the puttering is coming from the driver side exhaust or valve cover area. could I have lost a spark plug or could an exhaust gasket cause that to happen? Has anyone encountered this type of problem before? i'll try to get a video posted soon

Oh right before it was about to cutoff I noticed the rpms where at 200, Also my oil pressure gauge went down when the engine cutoff. other lights on the dash were the brake, CEL. I hooked up a code reader but had no DTCs at all because the CEL was off. Is there anyway to see what that CEL was or can you only see the DTCs when there is an actual CEL light on?
