Sounds like a failing coil?...
Drive 8 miles to work each morning, no problem.
When driving home, warmer outside and heavier stop-and-go traffic, it's been staling near the tail end of my commute home. Has stalled 4 times in the last week, all on the way home from work, all within a mile of my doorstep.
After sitting for a couple of minutes, it fires right up and I drive the rest of the way home.
Coil, right? How is this tested?

Mine had similar symptoms and the problem was actually the coil connector. I pulled it off and used a pick to tighten it up a little (hard to explain, but easy to see if you pull off the connector) and haven't had any problems since. Might as well try that first, since it's free.
Thanks for replying, Tom...I already checked that. Checked my grounds, too.
4 times out of 4 that it's happening in the late afternoon is more than a coincidence. Does heating up seem more likely than a loose connection?
Unsure how to test a coil, will a shop need to do that?

You can test resistance on the primary and secondary sides, but that won't tell you if it's failing when it gets hot. And for what you'd pay to have a shop do that, you can pretty much buy a new coil.
So, if I were you, I would just replace it and see if it fixes the problem.

Coils are pretty cheap these days.. Personally I would go with Delphi.. they if i remember correctly are or once were OEM to AC Delco...
Secondly is Airtex Wells which is from what i hear what BWD used to be.. bc i've had nothing but issues out of BWD parts since SMP took them over..
Rock Auto: Plus shipping..
Delphi: DELPHI Part # GN10174
$27.99
Airtex/Wells: This is also same part in the Autozone house brand for our trucks..
AIRTEX / WELLS Part # 5C1111 {Click Info Link for Alternate/OEM Part Numbers}
$29.99

Good call on just replacing then going from there if it doesn't fix the problem.
Thanks for the parts, too.

...I replaced the coil and it seemed to fix the issue. Ran fine for over a week, then suddenly it's back to the same ol' pattern...

What is heating up to cause this? It can't be a coincidence that it only happens in the afternoon after driving about 8 miles in warmer weather than my morning commute.
