Interior wiring

2000 Dakota quad cab with no power options. Been looking to rewire my cab to add the power options I am missing. Is it easier to use a completely new wiring harness or can I just add the wiring from the ctm. I found a donor quad cab but the idea of rewiring the entire dash doesn't sound like fun, not to mention getting it out of the other truck! If anyone knows of anywhere to get some pics of doing any of this it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Newf,

Welcome to the forum.

What options do you want? If you mean power windows, locks, and mirror, and don't really care about the remote keyless, you can do it without using the factory harness.

The power windows and the mirrors are completely independent of the CTM. The power locks use the CTM only for the RKE. You can still use the OEM switches and all.

Only power I would want added in is the passenger side mirror and window I may get it done sometime.

Was going to swap doors to get the locks/windows and I don't care about the RKE. The overhead computer and the auto dim mirror as well. I found a CTM from a fully optioned vehicle and was going to use it. My thought was that it would work even if I did not have the options hooked up, I could always add them later.

Without the RKE you don't need the other CTM.

What year is the console from? '01 and up will NOT work due to a change in the computer bus.

Describe what you have for parts and what you want to do, exactly, and we might be able to come up with some ideas and schematics.

So far all parts are from a 2000 dakota. I have the auto dim rear view mirror and the overhead console with electronics. I want to add the powered doors. Windows/locks/heated power mirrors. I was hoping that the wiring for these was seperate from the rest of the dash wiring so that I could just add it on. Add the grounds and wire it to the fusebox?

The wiring is integrated to the harnesses so you'll be pulling wires. Yes you could replace the entire harness, that will be quite the project. You'll be pulling the dash, seats, rug, headliner, everything.

Do you know how to read a schematic? Do you have the wiring diagram?

Here's a rough description of what you'd need to do:

Mirrors (5 wires in/out of driver door, 3 wires to RF door)

+Power and ground to the mirror switch.
+Three wires to the RH mirror from the switch.

NOTE: The LH mirror wiring is internal to the door, 3 wires to the mirror from the switch.

Locks (6 wires in/out of each front door, 2 wires to rear doors)

+Power to both front door lock switches
+Ground to both front door lock switches
+Two wires from both front doors for lock switches
+Two wires to every door for actuators

Windows (10 wires in/out of drivers door. 3 wires in/out passenger doors)

+Power to driver window control switch
+Ground
+3 wires to each passenger door for switches/motor (ground is back at drivers door).

Overhead Console
(5 additional wires to console)

+Power (switched) (NOTE: there should be a constant 12v already there)
+Ground (existing)
+CCD bus + (can tap at OBD port)
+CCD bus - (can tap at OBD port)
+Ambient Temp Sensor + (part of this wiring should be in place outside of the truck)
+Ambient Temp Sensor - (but you'd have to run it from drivers foot area to console)

Heated mirrors (2 wires in/out drivers door)

They aren't listed in the FSM as an option but it is only two more wires. In '01 I show them for the driver only.

Day/Night Mirror (3 wires)

+Power
+Ground
+Backup Lamp feed

NOTE: Yes, you can double up on some of the grounds and feeds

Currently going through my FSM now to try and see where all the extra wires join into the harness.

Pull the drivers kickpanel. You should find a number of connections there for the door.

An excellent writeup for installing the overhead console
