There is a little black crossways antenna mounted to the windshield behind the rearview mirror. What is it and what does it do? Changing the wiring for an overhead console and the last owner chopped the wires for it inside the headliner.

Is there still a radio antenna on the passenger side fender? They make ones that mount behind the mirror so you can delete the fender mount one.

 

Grabbed one at the wreckers today. Yes it's a windshield mounted antenna but I have the passenger side one as well.
