Replacing freeze plug
I have a '98 Dakota with the 5.2L V8. Is it true that you have to pull the engine to replace the freeze plug located on the side of the block near the engine mount? Don't remember if it's the driver's or passenger's side.
you don't have to, but it's a female dog if you don't. With my 3.9, I had both motor mounts completely removed (the front plugs are under the mount on all motors I believe) and a jack under the oil pan and trans crossmember bolts loose, and I had the motor up a good 4 inches. Still couldn't get a straight shot to drive them in. Ended up getting the rubber plugs.
The front plugs aren't a problem. Straight shot (I had the radiator out though).
