Could someone point me to a "link" on how to change the rear brake shoes/drums. Also, the a/c and vent air blows down at the bottom of the floor instead of the vents. Really appreciate your help! V8 2wd SLT crew cab. I checked the search engine and did not come across.
iirc changing the drums on a 9 1/4 involves jacking the rear end up, removing the wheels, and pulling the drums off. Replace and you're good. Why do you need to replace the drums? Are they that worn already? Shoes would be a step further, after removing the drum, unhook the springs and replace the shoes. You may wish to put new guts in (springs, wheel cyls, etc) at this time. Get yourself a Haynes or Chilton's manual though, or a real factory service manual, as they'll be more detailed and worth every penny.
for the a/c delima, look on the passangerside dash area under the glove compartnment. you're looking for a blue or green line, this an engine vacuum line, it activates the changes from defroster to floorboard to ect. if its there and in good shape the switch on your dash is most likely broken (or a line to/from it). just remove the dash and the switch panel bolts will be easily seen, remove the switch pannel and look at all the nice vacuum lines on the back of the selector switch - test using a good vacuum source and scrap 1/4" line. when selected to a position, it should suck at the corrsponding hole in the back.
too complex - chilton or hays is a slightly better source.
