I read online that the splines of the steering shaft have dimples for the bolts so that it can only go together one way. This way you can not make a mistake and put a new shaft on wrong.

Can anyone verify this?

It is a 2002 Quad 4WD

 

Actually just looked at the new part and it doesn't look like you can make a mistake. The ends don't have splines, they are just odd shaped.
