Default 2002 Dodge Dakota 4.7L Quad Cab A/C help

I have replaced the A/C compressor, the Accumulator, the orifice tube, and O-rings. I put the system on a vacuum for about an hour pulled from the low side, and tried to recharge. The system would only take about half a can and then wouldn't take anymore even with the truck running. I could hear the low pressure switch engage, and the compressor come on, but both the low side and high side have the same pressure. Am I missing something or did I do something wrong? Any help would be great, because I'm leaning toward a bad (new) compressor.

Pull a vacuum is done with both the low and high side open not just the low side that may be your problem.



If you can evacuate the system and redo the vacuum you may be ok did you ad the proper amount of oil to the system?

A/C work is very Dangerous be very sure you understand what you are doing follow all safty requirments.

Thanks 98DAKAZ. I did put oil in the compressor per the OEM specs. I will try pulling a vacuum on both sides.

How much total oil did you use as the compressor has a needed amount also I just did my system like you and total oil was 11 oz.


The compressor calls for an amount plus what the system calls for.


Compressor calls for 8 oz.


System calls for 6 oz


Total 14 oz.


I ran with 11 oz. for a few years with no problems so I used the same amount this time.
