Default Gear box

Hi,I have a '99 3.9 v6 dakota, when I put it into drive or reverse it "clunks" into gear nearly stalling the engine, have checked trans oil all seems ok,any ideas?

Clunking makes me want to say U joints or transmission mount, but as for stalling the engine, its either your Torque converter or IAC valve. Check engine light on?

But leaning towards Torque Converter with it all only happening in changing gears.

thanks for the info, i have no engine check light on so could be the torque converter or the iac valve as you say, will have to take it to the professionals !! off to the shop !!
