1997 dodge dakota
When my truck is cold and i put it in reverse it dies out. In*drive*it is fine. During summer months i do not have this issue, only when it is cold outside. Once the truck warms up there is no issues. Any help would be appreciated. Ty very much.
Same issue- I have 97 - 5.2L / 44RE w/ HD trans case (4x4) It does that i fi dont let it warm up..
Acts like its the IAC but I have new one or cleaned one nad still randomly does it when cold.. typically sometimes i also get a whining sound from the trans and it looses gear in reverse... (Both supposed to be related)..
I think someone suggested checking bands in transmission.. here is the list they gave..
1. Fluid Level Low. Add fluid and check for leaks.
(Rear Transmission seal- 4269956AB )
2. Gearshift Linkage Misadjusted. Adjust linkage.
3. Rear Band Misadjusted. Adjust band.
4. Rear Band Worn. Replace as required.
5. Overdrive Direct Clutch Worn. Disassemble overdrive. Repair as needed.
6. Hydraulic Pressure Too Low. Perform hydraulic pressure tests to determine cause.
7. Rear Servo Leaking. Air pressure check clutch-servo operation and repair as required.
8. Band Linkage Binding. Inspect and repair as required
Regulator valve may cause noise when transmission is in reverse
Verified
A loud buzzing or whining noise when the transmission is in reverse may be caused by the regulator valve in the transmission valve body. A revised regulator valve was released that does not resonate. Careful diagnosis should be performed because other issues can create this same type of noise.

i still have the issue when cold off and on if i dont let the truck warm up.. so my solution- let the truck warm up lol
