If you are that deep into it, replace them anyway.

Well, no. For one thing, I'm not "that deep" into it. I just have one rotor off to replace a broken stud. For another, while I was waiting for an answer to the thickness question I got prices of $45 to $65 for a set (ouch). And, third, I just found my answer in the shop manual "Bonded linings should be replaced when worn to a thickness of 1.6mm (1/16 in)." I have 3/16 inch left and rarely use a parking brake in any of my vehicles. Phoenix is pretty flat. I'm guessing I'll still have 3/16 inch on the parking brake linings after I go through this new set of disc pads.

I'm still hoping someone will come up with the thickness measurement on a new set but one of the parts counter people told my they are pretty thin when new anyway.

3/16 is almost nothing plus the shoe material tends to come unglued often on these small shoes replace them.

rockauto.com has them way cheaper $15 and up remember these are PARKING brakes.

You can also look at these replacement shoes on http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/ and compare your shoe to the new shoes.

Have a look at a new one while your there at the parts store. You can even measure a new one while you are at it. As stated, 3/16" is pretty thin and you can get them much cheaper if you shop around. Choice is yours. If you don't use your parking brake then don't replace them.

I compared my parking brake linings to the photo of new ones at Rock Auto and the thickness of the lining is the same so I'm comfortable leaving them as is.

Thanks everybody. You've been very helpful.

Parking brakes shouldn't wear out. Mine became unglued from the backing and I had to replace them. I used the cheapest available.
