Default Which Brand of Exhaust and Type ?

I have a 2000 QuadCab Dakota, 4.7 motor, 2WD.

I'm 53 years young and still like the sounds of great engines and exhaust.

To each it's own, and no disrespect,.....but these damn loud and CRAPPY aftermarket cookie canister muffler's,...sounds of the "Tuner 4 cylinder cars" suck !

"bur,...bur",.........bur" Makes me want to beat them with a stick ! lol....

I'm trying to decide on what brand and type of a Cat-Back exhaust system ?

Also either aluminized or stainless ?

We always drive our vehicals until they die, so even though the stainless is very expensive, will the cost be worth it ?

Sound is very,.....important !

I don't really like the "raspy & crackle" sound of the Flowmaster, sounds too much like the old glass packs.

I do like the sound of the Dynomax, Gibson and Heartthrob, by listening to YouTube video's and on manufacture websites. Their a deep mellow sound at idle and cruising, and sounds great by stomping on the pedal.

I built a 427 Shelby Cobra and have un-restricted stainless sidepipes, which are loud, but sounds awesome. But, I just want a low to medium sound level, so I can listen to my tunes. (none needed in my Cobra) lol...

I've been looking on the Auto Anything website as they so far, have the best prices. Plus, I bought new brakes and shocks there and think very highly of them. But, they do not carry Dynomax !

Sounds of several mufflers on the Dynomax website-

The second part is the few ways to route the exhaust. which type for our Dakota's.

Single Side Out-

2.5" Dual Sport - Swept side-

2.5" Dual split rear exit (Stainless)

3" Single swept side exit (Stainless)

Again, I do not,....like the "raspy & crackle" sound, or too loud,
(I suppose more like the Turbo header mufflers back in my days, but not the glasspack's)

PLEASE, let me know your thoughts and what brand of exhaust you have and how you like/don't,... like it !

Photo's and video's will be appreciated.

Thanks guys !

Here's my Dakota. I just replaced the brakes and shocks.

I put larger tires on and really love the size, compared to the 215 originals !
Made a HUGE difference in the ride and looks.

Anyway, with the swept up on the bottom rear fenders, I don't know if the straight back under the bumper exhaust would look good or suck ?

Would it show too much of the pipe's even if I go with the stainless ?
(I won't have this type of routing if I buy the aluminized)

If you have this type, I would like to see your photo's.

I went with magnaflow on my 5.2 back when I had it.. Good sound with the 5.2 was pretty deep..

I was running duals for a little but ended up taking them off after I took off the muffler one day and started it up.. After that they stayed off lol..

These are the 2 best pics I have showing the duals.. I went with aluminized.. Depends if you wanna run tips or not.. I went with a chrome 3.5in tip that was 16in long I believe.. Hid a lot of the pipe.. I can never justify the price of stainless pipe.. I put a whole 5in exhaust on my ram and it only ran me 250.00.. So far its been on there for 6 years and it still looks like I put it on last year

Nice truck bud !

Why did you remove the duals ?

They look great. Do you have any closer photo's ?

The reason I'm thinking about the stainless, is we drive our cars until their junk and go to the graveyard, so I would imagine I'd put on at least 3 mild steel exhaust system's, vs one stainless.

No dont have any other good pics.. To me it was a little louder and sounded good.. I took them off when I had my bed off and painted my frame.. Moved the truck with it off and loved it so they never went back on... I look at it this way here in the mountains of pa they put tons of salt down in the winter.. 9 times out of 10 your vehicle is gonna rust out before the exhaust does... Had a 95 jeep grand cherokee sold it on 2010 with 216k on it.. Had the original exhaust pipe had 2 mufflers replaced in its time... Right now the 04 grand cherokee has 130k and its still on its original exhaust system.. Had to put an exhaust clamp but that was it.. If you feel that its money well spent then by all means dont let me stop you. I just feel id rather spend my money elsewhere..

This was in cab sound with no muffler just a foot of pipe off the cat to the back of the cab
