2002 4WD Quad with 4.7. How much work is it to replace a steering rack? What kind of adjustments need to happen? Is this something better going to a dealer? What can I expect to pay a dealer? Thanks
Not much work if you have the tools and equipment. Basically unbolting everything, draining the fluid, replacing the rack, refilling the fluid and alignment.
Depending on dealer labor rates, anywhere from $500 - $1000. Better off calling around various places and ask. They can give you and estimate.
Its easy to do get a rebuilt rack first pop out the old pop in the new replace any other parts needed like the end ball joints. Get it aligned done. Just measure the length of each link side copy to bolt back together a quick alignment.
My rebuilt rack was $173, tierods $13 a piece, pump was $40 and steering shaft was $80. Took one whole day to put it all in. Did the string and bucket method to align.
