Default Oil pressure drops to zero then up again?

Hi All, when out driving the oil pressure drops to zero and the check gages red light comes on along with the bong bong noise, after a while it goes back to normal and then goes to zero again. Have checked oil level and its spot on, any ideas?

Change the oil pressure sender. You didn't post what engine you have.

Default Screen?

I just bought a '99 Dakota with the 3.9l V6. I encountered the same problem with the oil pressure gauge and check gauges light. (Just after the check cleared!)

I took it to my shop and they verified that the pressure was good, changed the oil and it hasn't happened since.

I've read that the oil screen can become clogged and give faulty readings. So I recommend checking that. Good luck!

If you have bing bong, but no bang bang then the oil sender is probably the issue.

its funny originally mine only did it on my 5.2L after driving a little shuttind down like at a gas station and then firing back up it would do it right at first when it first cranked..

Now though it does it when the oil gets a little on the low side and you stop at a red light it will come on.. lol..

as dumb as this sounds its almost like an early warning when i dont check the oil its low.. LOL.

Pick up screen may be starting to become clogged. Could be worn internals causing pressure loss or bad oil pump. Put a mechanical gauge on it to to see what the actual psi is. If it's good probably the sender is at fault.
