Default Replacing windshiled molding

Rather than spend $20 on new windshield molding, the previous owner of my truck decided to fill it with bondo and paint it. Predictably, it leaks like a sieve now when it rains.

I've started removing it but it's not going well. The popular method seems to be to use a propane torch and putty knife. But I've already found some rusted out holes and am afraid of catching the headliner on fire if some flames slip through the cracks. I'm probably going to just head to HF and pick up a heat gun, just wondering if anyone had some other tricks to try first.

Also when installing the new seal, it appears to just hook underneath the windshield. But I'm guessing I need to use some sort of adhesive to adhere it to the roof to keep water from getting underneath it? Thanks for any help.

sounds like you have a bigger problem heavy rot in that area that needs to be fixed first.

Oh I'm definitely going to fix things as I go, gotta get this stuff out first, though. Most info I've found relating to bondo is removing it from body panels, etc, not gooped up in an awkward to work on channel like this.
