Default I need 12v at the back of the truck for an accessory which wire?

Hi.

2004 Dakota v8 factory tow package. Has a 7 pin harness (no brakes wired up tho). I am installing some lights and a 12v power outlet in my camper shell.

Which wire running to the 7pin plug is the 12v supply for the trailer plug? I know which pin it is that has constant 12v but am not sure which wire it is.

I have yellow/black, blue, green/red, red/white, brown/red, black/purple, black, and black.

You'd have to probe. Purple should be reverse lights, yellow and green for turn signals, blue for trailer brake, brown for brake, black for ground. So I would assume the red/white wire...if mopar followed standard coding.

Best to probe the wires for a hot power connection or run a separate wire for the 12V power outlet and lights. I'm thinking the hot 12V in the harness would need the parking lights activated, or brake pedal depressed, it's been quite a few years since I wired up a trailer harness. Last one I went the easy route and purchased a Hoppy plug in connector, so no splicing wires. Also you don't want to have to turn the key to accessory to run your lights and 12V power outlet. Just thinking out loud and could be wrong.

No, there is an always-hot in the 7 way for charging a trailer battery. Usually has a 20 or 30 amp fuse on it.
