3.9 to 5.2 swap
Got a 99 dakota sport with 3.9 and manual transmission. I took a 5.2 out of a 97 ram with a automatic transmission. I used my existing v6 harness added the extra injector wires and swapped the few plugs that didn't match up. Bought a 5.2 flywheel and pilot bearing and changed oil pan now the ecm will not work out of the donor ram. What ecm do I need. I'm thinking one from a 99 that came with the 5.2 and manual transmission. Can yaw clarify this for me or maybe I need a custom flashed ecm
The 1999 5.2/manual should fit and work fine. But before I did that, I'd quadruple check the "swapped plugs that didn't fit" to make sure you didn't accidentally miswire a plug or three.

Thanks Ralph I was careful with the plugs and the wire colors were the same the plugs just changed on a few sensors from 97 to 99. Does the flywheel and flex plate have to be changed or will my v6 flywheel work with the v8 flex plate?
Also the altenator from the 96 5.2 had a voltage regulator that attatched to the back of it. The 99 3.9 altenator did not have it. I used the 3.9 altenator instead of trying to wire that into the v6 harness or do I need to wire it in and use the 5.2 altenator
A flex plate connects a crankshaft to an automatic transmission's torque converter; a flywheel is used with a manual transmission.
The flywheel/flex plate question makes no sense.
