Auto trans '97 4x4 5.2
Morning Guys, dakota down again. Looking to replace the trans, and having trouble finding a used one in Houston. Salvage yards telling me has to be 97 only, but cant tell me why. Some even ask if a skinny or a fat? I thought it just a 44re.
Short story, drove to store, parked, came out, stuck in park. Got under, removed shift cable and got it in reverse. drove 6 or 8 miles home in reverse. Dropped pan, dropped valve body and a couple of broken pieces. put back together without long rod and now only have rev, 2nd, and 3rd.
TMI? Are there any options? Thanks!

sounds about right. Surprised you even have that much.
97 and 98 are a little different than the rest. I think a 99 might slide in. It wouldn't hurt to go to a 46RE either. Only difference is an extra clutch disc or two for 5.9 power instead of 5.2 power. Nothing noticable. Shoudl be able to use a 44 or 46 our of a ram, too.

Okay, thanks. Just wanted to make sure it wasnt a computer issue or drive shaft or transfer case hook up kind of thing. I found lots of 4x4 rams, that will help widen my search.
