Default 3.9L plug removal??

Pulling the plugs on a '99 3.9L. I called it a night when I couldn't get a socket on the front two passenger side plugs. It felt like the nut portion was too big for the 5/8" socket that got the other 4 out. My 3/4" socket wouldn't fit inside the metal shields.

How are those shields attached? I'm guessing a snug fit and I could grab and wiggle out with a pair of channel locks?

Figured I'd better ask before I start back on it tomorrow. So, any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mike

Yes the sleeves are press-in. There's all kinds of muck accumulated down in them.

Spot on. Gunk and severely rusted and flaking off plug bases.

Thanks
