Red face Fan Clutch removal trick??

2000 Dakota Sport, 3.9l, Manual, 129K owned her since new (DEC 99)!
After almost 17years my fan clutch has gone bad (wooshing noise at high rpms). The last 2 times I took it off was to replace the water pump and the pump was on my workbench to remove it.
I want to remove the fan clutch with the water pump still on the truck. Is there a trick or special tool I can use to keep the pump from spinning???

Spanner wrench, DUH! ( <--Me) Thank you! I was trying to figure out what to stick in the holes of the pulley to keep it from spinning. ( And I think I am pretty smart when it comes to tools and their uses. )

I always just leave the belt on, put a crescent on the big nut, and whack with a light hammer. comes right off.

Once you use one of these, you'll never go back to the old ways.

Thank you all! Especially magnet head.
Bought a 15in adjustable crescent wrench (could have used a 12 but wanted the longer handle length) 3 whacks with a soft head hammer and it spun right off. 10 minute job! The whooshing is now gone! Thanks again. Love forums!
Tom A,
At 219.99 suggested retail those are awesome but a little steep for me. However I will keep that idea in mind, modifying an air chisel shaft to work with an open end or box wrench has a lot of possibilities.

I actually paid about half that price on Amazon, but it's still pretty expensive if you only need it once. If you work on a lot of cars, it's a bargain.

Glad you got it worked out.
