I have a 02 dodge Dakota..... my turn signals and flasher both went at the same time... a mechanic got in the flasher box and got the driver side turn signal to work but that was it.... now the brake light have gone out....mechanics are lost and not sure which part to replace and I don't want to drop a bunch of money on un needed part.... any ideas what the problem may be

I am not certain but often the true signal switch is electrically involved with enough circuits that it may cause the problem. I'm not recommending a wholesale replacement of the switch, especially if you are paying for the labor, but perhaps studying the circuits might clarify if it could be possible.
