Default 2004 DAKOTA 4.7 LITER (help)

I just purchase a mint 2004 quad cab. 94,000 miles
8 cyl 4.7 liter

I'm having an issue.
In the morning or after sitting for hours.
If I start up and pull away right away, it almost feels like the emergency brake is on. I press the peddle down and the truck feels like im towing a trailer.
After 3 minutes, its perfect.
Is this normal, or does it sound like i have a major issue

Thanks in advance
Dave

Is the engine making RPM or no?

My first thought is the trans slipping when cold, if it's making RPM but not going anywhere.

If it's not making RPM and just has no power when cold, it's something else.

Thanks for the response.
Turns out it was the clutch fan.
Someone installed a replacement before I bought the truck.
Its compatible but not the OEM version.
Works, but truck needs to warm up a minute before driving when cold.

Thanks again.

Drop the transmission pan. Check/change the ATF. It uses ATF+4 (I use supertech, Walmart brand). You will need to buy six quarts initially. Change the spin on filter (use OEM only because it has a drain back valve) and flush the screen filter with a hose or replace it too. Either install aftermarket drain plug, or go to Advance Auto website and buy the tranny pan that comes with a plug. It allows future tranny drains without the PITA method of pan drop.
